چکیده

THE LANCET • Vol 356 • July 29, 2000 411 A hypertensive emergency is defined as a situation that requires immediate blood-pressure reduction (not necessarily to .normal values) to prevent or limit targetorgan damage, and a hypertensive urgency is defined as a situation in which blood pressure should be lowered within a few hours. The distinction between emergencies and urgencies is important because it dictates management. Patients with target-organ damage, such as encephalopathy or aortic dissection, require emergency blood-pressure reduction with intensive monitoring and parenteral drug therapy. Patients presenting with significantly raised blood pressure but without evidence of target-organ injury need urgent, but not emergency, blood-pressure reduction. This aim can be achieved by use of oral agents and without intensive-care monitoring.

Inverse Agonism of SQ 29,548 and Ramatroban on Thromboxane A2 Receptor

G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) show some level of basal activity even in the absence of an agonist, a phenomenon referred to as constitutive activity. Such constitutive activity in GPCRs is known to have important pathophysiological roles in human disease. The thromboxane A2 receptor (TP) is a GPCR that promotes thrombosis in response to binding of the prostanoid, thromboxane A2. TP dysfun...

Intrinsic differences in the response of the human lutropin receptor versus the human follitropin receptor to activating mutations.

In contrast to the human lutropin receptor (hLHR), very few naturally occurring activating mutations of the structurally related human follitropin receptor (hFSHR) have been identified. The present study was undertaken to determine if one aspect underlying this discrepancy might be a general resistance of the hFSHR to mutation-induced constitutive activity. Five different mutations were introdu...

Mistake Proofing Cam Mechanism Through Six-sigma Process: Case Study on Clothes Printing Machines

Controlling the occurrence of defects is a major challenge for manufacturing organizations that are seeking to enhance their competitive position in today’s global market. This paper considers the process of screen-printing T-shirts using hydraulic and pneumatic printing machines. Several defects in the output of this printing process have been observed, especially with multi colors printing as...

The role of cell adhesion molecules for navigating axons: Density matters

Cell adhesion molecules of the immunoglobulin-super-family (IgSF-CAMs) do not only have a physical effect, mediating merely attachment between cell surfaces. For navigating axons, IgSF-CAMs also exert an instructive impact: Upon activation, they elicit intracellular signalling cascades in the tip of the axon, the growth cone, which regulate in a spatio-temporally concerted action both speed and...

The Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS): an evolving evidence-based clinical approach to suicidal risk.

The Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) is an evidence-based clinical intervention that has significantly evolved over 25 years of clinical research. CAMS is best understood as a therapeutic framework that emphasizes a unique collaborative assessment and treatment planning process between the suicidal patient and clinician. This process is designed to enhance the thera...
